Nprotect Gameguard Install PSO 2Is this program really as bad as people are saying Potentially putting my system at risk in a worst case scenario If I uninstall PSO 2 will Gameguard completely uninstall with it I want to continue playing but the security side of things has me a little worried. My gut instinct is that this is overblown and nothing to worry about, but I wanted to see if there was any insight from the community. Puts me at ease. Just didnt want to unknowingly put my system at risk. Having so much fun with this game and all these trolls were bumming me out. Its just a bunch of people that read the article that Riot and Kotaku put out about anti-cheat and now think they understand it all. I could see the tasks being stopped in task manager by game guard. The only issue you may stumble is that once every blue moon it will fail to update and then shit itself, which can be fixed by using the tweaker. While Gameguard may not be a tough one and I can only speak from my friends and Is experiences, we have had absolutely 0 issues with it. Just know that bad anti cheats like the 2 I mentioned above have led to other ones getting hit pretty hard with this kind of reception. I dont think any online game mmo is safe from this kind of backlash now since they all need something similar. Not to mention a lot of people like hopping on a bandwagon with this type of stuff. Its been used on the Japanese version since the game came out in 2012 (and prior to that, in many other games, PSO Blue Burst being one). Im not going to like cheerlead anti-cheat programs (most fail at doing what they should and tend to break badly when they break), but Gameguards the occasionally get lightly grazed by a nerf dart in the arm compared to Denuvos occasionally get 16 shots to the head. Ive also seen a few people get confused over issues that have appeared over PSO2s lifetime. Like for example the link above shows someone who thought that GameGuard wiped hard drives, but that was the official PSO2 launcher that did that. In addition, GameGuard only runs when a game that uses it is running. After the game is closed, the driver that GameGuard uses is unloaded and the GameGuard service stops. I have to ask -- do you know if GameGuard uses any hidden files I know there is a GameMon.des file within my Windows directory, but aside from that (and the files beside the game), Im a little concerned about other files being dropped that I might want to remove should I stop wanting to play PSO2. Continue this thread level 2 0 points 8 days ago Everything that throws a UAC prompt is being called a rootkit these days. It obviously is not, but if GG does provide a security loophole to people with malicious intent. Havent seen anyone answer that yet, but I would assume it not that big of a deal otherwise we would be seeing major articles about it.
